7. HOW CAN I BECOME AN
ACTOR?
 |
Simply show up at auditions
and indicate your interest. Central Park Players takes the term
“community theatre” to heart and tries to give everyone a chance to
get involved. We’re always on the lookout for new talent! And, an
absolutely wonderful way to learn about the theatre is to volunteer to
work “behind the curtain” as a crew member if you aren’t cast in a
show. As a general rule, it takes about 5 people working on crews to
support 1 actor on the stage. Crewing is incredibly important, is
lots of fun, and is a great way to become involved. Just let us know
of your interest and we’ll find a place where you can help! |
9. HOW CAN I FIND OUT ABOUT
AUDITIONS?
 |
The best way is to go to
our web site tab of “Get Involved” and click on the “Free E-Callboard”
link. If you enter your email address on the “WhizBang” button,
you’ll automatically receive notices of what’s going on at Central
Park Players, including audition dates. The Callboard is always
published monthly and more frequently when important information needs
to be distributed. |
10. WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN? DO
YOU HAVE ANY SHOWS FOR THEM?
 |
Central Park Players is
keenly aware of the positive effect theatre and the arts has on
children and we have a special Family Theatre series each year that
offers opportunities for budding thespians from age 5 up to age 18 to
act, crew, build sets, and just have fun. In addition, we are
planning to offer a week-long “camp” for children and teens to learn
the skills necessary to be involved in the total theatre experience. |
11. WHERE EXACTLY ARE YOU
LOCATED?
 |
In January 2008 Central
Park Players moved into our new headquarters. Located at 1433
Fulton, these facilities act as CPP's office, storage, scene shop, and
rehearsal space. |
12. DOES CENTRAL PARK
PLAYERS OFFER MEMBERSHIP?
 |
Absolutely. And there are
many benefits to being a member. Discounts on tickets, access to a
list of over 50 local merchants who give discounts for CPP members,
automatic sign-up for the Callboard, and the satisfaction of knowing
that you’re supporting local theatre and the arts – which makes an
enormous difference in the quality of life for our community. If you
go to the “About CPP” button and click on the “Membership” tab you can
learn all about the advantages. And if you would like to become a
member, let us know through the “Contact Us” button. We’ll get in
touch with you right away. |
13. WHY AREN’T YOU
PERFORMING IN A TRADITIONAL THEATRE?
 |
Well, actually, we are. If you look at the historical development of
live theatre, it has always been quite common for theatre troupes to
perform in a variety of venues. Different types of productions –
dramas, musicals, comedies, farce, and so forth – all require widely
differing space and set requirements. Some productions have as few as
6 or 7 performers…others might have a cast in excess of 25. Some
productions are best performed “in the round”, some with a “thrust”
stage, and some are best suited for the typical proscenium stage such
as is found in schools and other auditoriums. Central Park Players
philosophy is to find the best venue possible to suit the production –
so we may perform at different places during the season for different
shows. And we think that’s consistent with our mission to bring the
very best theatre we can to the community, and at affordable prices. |
