Central Park Players' Rising Stars! Day Camp Receives Scholarship Grant
The Grand Haven Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council awarded Central Park Players’ Rising Stars Day Camp grant monies that will be awarded as need-based scholarships for its new two-week theatre day camp for youngsters this June.
Rising Stars Day Camp, a new venture for Central Park Players, is a tuition-based day camp that focuses on teaching the basics of being onstage to the beginning actor, ages 4-11. The day camp will have both AM and PM sessions running from June 15 through June 26, culminating with a stage performance.
Instruction will be provided by the chairperson of the Family Theatre Committee of Central Park Players, Shaylynn Chalupa. Chalupa, who has many years of experience working with children with Central Park Players and Muskegon Civic Theatre, will teach the basics of theatre focusing on teamwork, character development, theatre basics, and staging.
The funds for the scholarships have been awarded from the Grand Haven Community Foundation Youth Fund which is supported by donations to the Grand Haven Community Foundation discretionary fund.
The scholarships provided through these generous donations will give families who are struggling financially the ability to expose their children to opportunities in the arts where they can gain confidence, build talent, and develop lifelong tools to be more successful in whatever they endeavor.
Central Park Players also offers a late-summer day camp for older students which was started last year.
Both programs will continue to offer scholarships through the Grand Haven Community Foundation grant and funding from a private donor.
